Dusting Your Minimates

I recently took all of my Minimates down for their annual dusting and rearranging. This post offers three tips on how to quickly and effectively clean your Minimates. Over the course of a year there is definitely a visible layer of dust on the darker parts, as seen here:

There are 3 ways to clean your Minimates, depending on how dusty or dirty they are.

1. Microfiber Cleaning Cloth

This type of cleaning cloth comes with most digital cameras. They are for sale almost anywhere for a reasonable price. When used on a dusty Minimate, this cloth will remove the dust quickly and easily.

However if your Minimate has a lot of fine sculpted details, this cloth will not be able to reach them all.

2. Canned Air

For sculpted Minimate parts, I recommend using the microfiber cloth first, followed by a blast of canned air, followed by another wipe-down with the cloth.

Clean War MachineBut sometimes your Minimates might have a layer of dirt and grime built up that even the toughest microfiber cloth can’t combat!

3. Soapy Water

When the going gets tough, the tough get out the soap and water.

Minimate taking a bathIf your Minimates don’t come clean from the microfiber cloth and canned air combo, give them a bath in some soapy water. Dry them off with a towel and you are all set!

Now I just need to figure out how to display 900 Minimates in a space that can really only hold about 800…
