Tips and Tricks

I have been making a list of tips and tricks that I have come across since I started this blog last year. Some have come from readers like you, while others have come while working on new minimate projects. Now that i have this list posted, I can tear the page out of my notebook and start on a new list of tips and tricks that will be posted a few months down the road just like this one. Here is the current list in no particular order.

  1. Sharpie has a line of pens out to compliment their line of markers. These pens are ultra-fine point, and they work great on paper, but they do NOT work well on minimates. The ink does not dry well on the plastic surface, and it is definitely not permanent.
  2. The bake-on decals I recommended tend to get a little crispy if they are not used right away. They still function, but you have to be much more careful or else the decals will crack. I try to use them the same day I print them now.
  3. If you don’t end up using them the same day, try to keep the decal sheets in a sealed bag.
  4. Since most brands of gold paint leave a sticky surface, an alternate solution is to paint the surface silver first, then give it a coat of clear yellow, possible mixed with a tiny bit of red.
  5. Nail polish remover helps un-stick superglued fingers.
  6. Winkerbean shared this link for a great paint removing tool.
  7. TM2 Dinobot suggested using Plasti-Dip on the Helping Hands clamps.
  8. Speaking of Helping Hands, they are on sale here for a crazy low price.
  9. TBT pointed out that Citadel Elf Flesh paint is a close match to minimate flesh color.
  10. Lastmaximal recommended for costume resources.

Thanks for the heads up on the flesh color. That has been bugging me for a while now. I ended up mixing my own (3/4ths Penelope, 1/4th Latte, 8 drops of Red, per 3 oz.) and it was the closest I could get.

So, do you mean once you buy the decals, use them A.S.A.P.?

Or, once you print on them, use them right away?

They are fine until you print on them. The toner seems to make them brittle over time.

    Sweet, thanks! ^_^
